Title: Found
Background: I get bored a lot, and can never finish a full story, so I write these short ones. I always finish them. ^^ Enjoy.
Work:
I surfaced from my deep dive into the lake. Shiver still ran up my spine as I sat on the damp bank, towel wrapped around my frigid shoulders. Late fall breezes blow by, just making me all the colder.
The mere shining of the sun setting against the reflective surface of the lake set off peals of bells in my head, all harshly alarming me to leave.
Of course I knew the rules. Tucked away and hidden after dark. Everyone who wasn’t One of Them knew. I stood to go, following the rules as usual.
“I’m late,” I mutter, kind of a reminder to myself to move faster. One of Them would get me if I didn’t.Throwing my bag over my shoulder and jamming my feat in my old beaten up sneakers, I make my way home. Soon, I am running. I was latter than I thought.
My house is in site. The pure wooden house stood before me, looming in the last light of the day. The sun was setting quickly. The darkness was about to take over and They would all come out. I rush to a door, any door. I try the frigid door handle, but it’s locked. I am pounding my fist against the hard oak door, turning my knuckles more raw each second I continue the hard rapping.
“No!!” I screech, “Let me in!!”
Hot, wet drips run down my face. I realize they’re tears and try to stop, but my focus is broken because I’m still pounding, pounding on the door, knowing I was never going to be let in.
Soon, all rays of sunlight are gone. All I have for light is the light attached to the house, next to the door. I’m not sure why it’s still on. I know I’m going to be dead soon, or worse. They will get to me any second, because as soon as it’s dark, They come out from their hiding, wherever that is.
I hear a hiss behind me, not one like a cat, but more of a sound as if gas was being slowly released from a pressurized bottle. Oh no. They’ve found me.
I can only guess what’s next. I turn and there One of Them is, looming there. The beast looks like a black fog with a horrid, unintelligible face.
It looms over to me, about an inch or two from my face. It talks, a sound like the screeching of nails on a chalkboard. A sound I never thought I’d hear. At that moment, I know I’m a gonner. No chance now. Because I look behind it and there are at least three more.
“Now…” It screeches, “Now you will see…” And It grabs my wrist, creating a bruise from its rock hard grasp. The creature held me carefully and made an impossible incision in my wrist, and soon I felt my soul literally pouring out. I felt myself being ripped from my body, being consumed by the night. I saw my body fall behind me, but I wasn’t paying much attention to that. I was focusing on the world in front of me.
I returned home after that night; and even though I could not reach them , I knew my old family and friends knew I was right there, waiting for them to come and join me in my new world. To come and join everyone they could remember, everyone who had been Taken. Because we were still there, watching, waiting until the day humans lost their fear and ignorance.

Almost dark…Time to go…

Too late…

You’re a dead woman…
