Title: Metropolis
Background: I wasn't entirely sure if I should classify this as poetry, but whatev. I feel 'poetic' today.
Work:
With a flash it ended; earth as it was known
Wiped out, a global population
Trapped inside the confines of the enigmatic mind
As the machines preside over the land
Year zero; a fresh start to a forsaken world
Under new rule, the fourth Reich
All was lost; humans left to the mercy of their own twisted minds
A lowly man awakes from the chasm; feasts his eyes on the desolation
“Blind be my eyes tonight, hide the sight that sees in vain” said he
Along the path of broken sprits and souls he saves his brethren
He rises among them; casts a shadow of light over the forsaken souls
He is their savior; leading them to salvation
With a flash it ended; the mechanical view of the world temporarily ceased
Year thirty; all along the blue-lit cityscape the war rages
A futurist metropolis; a modern day necropolis
Their holographic universe we seek and destroy
The now conscious and clear mind devours the cold nemesis
Skin against steel; the flesh no match for the cold dark metal
With an iron fist the machines prevail
Back within the walls of the city the savior enters enemy domain
Nanobots in hand he rises before their leader
“You are no match for mechanical fury, surrender and fall back to your oblivion”
The leader’s voice strikes fear deep within the savior’s beating heart
“We will not bow; we are the ghost in your machine”
With a raging fury he drops the case of Nanobots
Quickly they eat the holographic mainframe
Demolishing the mechanical beauty; collapsing their twisted worldviews
With a flash it ended; their endless treason, the fall of the fourth Reich
The futuristic metropolis sits among the clouds; reaching up into the heavens
The savior and his followers rise up and take the throne
Year zero; the beginning of a new age; peace and harmony
No longer will they be slave to thoughts within the enigmatic mind
Global purging of the cold mechanical
No longer a large population; but one species in full harmony
Together they fight, together they rise, together they fall…
